acolytemanual

Our acolytes are youth who serve at the altars at the 8:50 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. worship services and processions for other church festivities.

In addition to our education program, a very good way for parents to help their children know God is to involve them in worship. We have opportunities for our children and teens to be active as worship leaders through our music ministry and acolyte ministry. Beginning at age 10, youth can be trained as acolytes to learn to serve as light bearers, flag bearers, second crucifers, first crucifers, and aviators. We welcome and encourage our youth in leadership! Our next acolyte training announcement will be posted soon. If you would like to inquire about becoming an acolyte, please check with Patrick, Stacey, or Kathy (see right) for more information.

Honor Acolytes

An honor acolytes is someone who is not only involved in our acolyte program but also the educational and fellowship activities of our programs over the course of the year. We honor those acolytes 2-3 times a year in our bulletin announcements and by awarding them with these crosses (pictured below). We love all of our acolytes but want to acknowledge those who go above and beyond with this special token of our appreciation. crosses

cherubchoir 2018

The Cherub Choir is an informal choir made up of the 2 through 5 year olds in the nursery, and they are joined by children in kindergarten through 5th grade who attend Children's Choir activities on Wednesday evenings. Children share songs they have learned with their leaders in the nursery.

The Cherub Choir sings twice in the fall and twice in the winter/spring at either the 8:50 a.m. or 10:50 a.m. Sunday services. They also are included in our annual Christmas Pageant during Advent.

The Cherub Choir "season" is September through early June.

First Holy Communion took place October 27, 2019 at the 8:50 a.m. service. We celebrated Holy Communion with the following students and their families: Campbell James Mank, Harrison Thomas Nance, Lucille Margaret Nance, Jonah Elliott Penick, Fisher Thomas Schley, and Billie Michealle Torres. Photos are below.

More Information About Wednesdays

  • Youth Music - There have been various offerings over the years depending upon the gifts and talents of the students. A singing ensemble or handbell ensemble are formed for special events.
  • Youth Group -Middle school and high school students initially meet together for announcements and opening prayer. Everyone stays together for a large group game then split up into small group conversations with a youth leader. The emphasis is on applying scripture to their daily lives. Snacks are generally provided. Youth Group meets on the Ground Level of the McClurg building.
  • After Youth Group -Those students whose parents are in Adult Wednesday evening classes remain in the youth room to play ping-pong, pool, pinball, group games, or hang out with our awesome youth leaders.
  • Theme Nights – We enjoy going to Barnett Family Park once a month for Park Night, weather and light permitting.

Special Events

Special events are planned throughout the year for our teens. We have mission projects, fellowship parties and outings, discipleship opportunities, and service projects. Some are focused for middle schoolers, some for high schoolers, some for all teens, and a few are family-friendly.

YOUTH ENSEMBLE

The Youth Ensemble is a supportive and nurturing fellowship whose goal it is to improve their skills as individuals and, as a blended group, to provide worship of Christ through the use of their voices and musical instruments. No formal training is required to participate, just a willingness to learn and a commitment to attend rehearsals and Sunday presentations. It is an excellent way for teens to serve our parish and to learn about worship leadership.

The Youth Ensemble provides music at one of the Sunday services once a month, September through May. They are especially helpful during the Advent, Christmas and Easter seasons - often performing several times a month during these seasons.

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 until 8:00 p.m. in the choir room on the 2nd floor of the McClurg building. During the busiest church seasons, group and individual rehearsals are scheduled as needed.

The Youth Ensemble is directed by Gina Wegman.
