During the Lenten season, the children's area has been exploring what Lent is and how to apply the practices of the season to their lives.
On Ash Wednesday, we made LENT paper foldable that guided us through what Lent is, a scripture to focus on for the season, things that can be given up (meat, cell phones, social media, etc.), and things that can be taken on (extra Bible study, good works and service, etc.). After the children received the ashes during the evening service, they individually wrote down actions that they were sorry for doing over the last year and pinned them to a canvas cross. Those who missed Ash Wednesday service are adding to the canvas throughout the season.
Wednesday, March 13th, was a psalm night. We chose to feature Psalm 51:2
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
to go with our Lenten study. We discussed the meaning of the verse and how it related to the practices of repenting during Lent. Afterwards, we created bath bombs! Not only was it a fun hands-on project, but watching the bath bombs dissolve and fizz away was a visual aid to represent the psalm. The bath bombs wash away the dirt from our physical bodies, as Jesus' death washes away our sins.
