We are still working on our "why we do what we do series" and today's small group focused on service. A great topic. What does serving God look like? And what does serving others look like?
Serving God ultimately means giving our heart to him. He wants a relationship with us. He wants us to submit our lives to him.
Act 17:25-25 says: The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.
He doesn't NEED us to do good things, he WANTS us to love him and give our lives over to him.
Once we give ourselves over to God all the other thinks just fall into place. Like being kind, doing for others and just loving on everyone as if they were part of your family.
Matthew 22:37-39 says And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
This falls right in line with our motto: Because God loves us we love God and each other!!
After small groups we pulled it all together with a little game called penny toss. In order to receive you must first give.
Luke 6:38 says: give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
They had to toss a penny at 5 different line markers for every penny you make into the jar you get 2 in return. The last man standing wins.
